Alignment Principles that Help You Take Healing into Your Own Hands

As a yoga teacher, we can have the tools to help people out of the common pains that arise in their practice – for instance:

  • Back pain in Cobra
  • Wrist pain in Downward Dog
  • Hip pain in Ardha Chandrasana

We can also use yoga to help our clients and loved ones get out of shoulder, neck, knee, and back pain that they experience in their day to day lives.

These tools become essential for pregnant and postpartum students. Because of the way the body changes so profoundly throughout this journey, the usual aches and pains become even more common. And these misalignments can become magnified in some specific pregnant and postpartum conditions, such as:

  • low belly and cramping
  • abdominal wall split (diastisis recti)
  • pelvic instability and low back issues
  • joint pain

In The Yoga of Healing Yoga Teacher Training, you’ll become comfortable with simple alignment actions that help relieve aches and pains, for both pregnant and non-pregnant students.

Therapeutic yoga teacher training - The Yoga of HealingIn this powerful, transformative weekend you will learn alignment principles to practice, teach, and live by. These actions you can do anytime to help relieve aches and pains, stabilize joints, find freedom physically and emotionally, and access support throughout the phases of your life.

You will apply these principles to basic yoga poses and sequences, and learn to instruct with them to help your students out of pain, on and off the mat.

Standard ways of teaching regular yoga poses – chatturanga, downward dog, backbends and standing poses – can worsen pain and injury for vulnerable people.

Bring your aches and pains! They are often our greatest gurus, so we can learn to help others heal from them. These principles are particularly useful for common pregnancy and postpartum issues, but help reduce pain for all bodies, all the time.

The Yoga of Healing for Women Yoga Teacher Training - Meditation

In this Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training, you will:

  • Learn physical and verbal alignment adjustments so you can be confident in getting students out of pain

  • Delve deep into the physical and emotional conditions common in the18 months around birth
  • Learn how to incorporate therapeutic alignment instructions to make sure all students stay out of pain on the mat

What is The Yoga of Healing about?

As a Certified Anusara teacher for many years, I saw first-hand the ways in which Yoga of Healing Kneealignment-based yoga helps us get out of pain, and stay out.

But I also saw the ways in which separating out different body parts and using our more analytical side to heal could make things worse.

The therapeutic principles morphed into the more holistic, feminine, softer five Ma Yoga® alignment principles – or the Five Sacred Steps – that describe every co-creative act, from planting a garden to writing a poem.

We always work on multiple levels, never just biomechanics, always connected to how we’re feeling.

The “healing” and “therapeutics” denomination are not Yoga Alliance registered, but rather come through my Masters in Exercise Science as well as two decades of helping people out of pain.

The Five Ma Yoga Alignment Principles, or Five Sacred Steps  – We will dive into each step, and practice applying them , and how to apply them to our every day poses to get and keep students out of pain.  The Yoga of Healing Cobra adjustment

Women’s bodies – We will address particular discomforts and injuries using women’s bodies as our model, as well as common challenges along the journey to Yoga of Healing for Women laborincluding infertility, dyastisis recti, and back labor.

See energetic flow – Once you have these tools, you will be able to see where misalignments occur and help shift people in to a healing direction. By looking closely at specific issues related to pregnancy and postpartum, you will come to know intimately what the body needs physically and energetically to maintain ease and strength even in the most unstable and depleted times.

And finally, you will be part of an ever-growing, global community of yoga teachers, birth practitioners, and mamas who use birth as our guru to find our own open, strong, creative center – no matter what challenges arise!

Your Itinerary

In this transformative online therapeutics training, you will become confident helping people out of pain on and off the mat.

You will learn simple but powerful alignment principles you can practice, teach, and live by, called the Five Sacred Steps.

These alignment actions work on all levels: physical, emotional, spiritual, and energetic, we will use them as our guide as you learn to:

  • relieve discomforts in regular yoga poses like Chatturanga and Downdog
  • address aches and pains desk, driving and sleeping
  • support healing for chronic pain and disease
  • address emotional/mental issues including anxiety and depression
  • find a balance of stability and freedom in your body, mind, and heart.

Welcome Circle

  • Understand the difference between teaching poses and teaching alignment
  • Discover the Shiva/Shakti, feminine/masculine qualities that we will be using
  • Learn the elements and where in the body they live

Teach Regular Yoga with Alignment

  • Adjustments in Childs Pose, Down Dog Bridge, and many others
  • Teaching each pose as an opportunity to step into optimal alignment
  • Verbal and physical adjustments

Address Specific Physical and Emotional Conditions with Alignment

  • Neck, low back, knee, and wrist issues
  • Anxiety, depression, high blood pressure,
  • Conditions related to the 18 months around birth, including fertility, diastisis recti, pelvic floor issues
  • Postpartum Healing with the Chakras
  • Core strength for women’s bodies
  • Meditation, pranayama, and self-actualization

I thought I’d have wrist pain forever

I know how to find my power

I just love how everything is based on the Five Sacred Steps. It was hard to get at first, but eventually I got it and it’s so helpful not just for yoga but for life.

Like I fully stepped into my power today and told some people I didn’t want to do this thing that I felt pressured to do.

Before this whole training with you I would have just sucked it up, I feel bad, but now I’m like “this doesn’t feel good to me” and I know how to find my power and stand in it.
