REVIEWS OF MA YOGA CLASSES

I’ve been so happy with these classes

I really like Rachelle’s class because I find that the exercises she focuses on are really helpful for pregnancy and for labor prep, plus she’s really attentive to different people’s bodies and their varying needs based on belly size and stage of pregnancy. It’s also cool because she’s a doula so her insights to birthing and labor have been really valuable.

I had a wonderful experience!

I had a wonderful experience with Rachelle during my pregnancy. She is extremely knowledgable about prenatal yoga and goes above and beyond to make sure you get the answers you are looking for during this precious time. She is also very hands on, corrects your poses if she sees you’re out of alignment which I really appreciated. I would talk to her about all types of prenatal care and she would give great advice or resources. I would highly recommend her class!

A peaceful sanctuary

I started Rachelle’s prenatal yoga class from when I was 16 weeks pregnant (and am now almost 40 weeks!), and have loved every class. There is so much valuable information shared during class about pregnancy and the birthing journey, along with of course, prenatal yoga exercises.Rachelle, who is also a doula and postpartum doula, is wonderfully knowledgeable and incredibly passionate about helping mothers and babies. Her class has been a peaceful sanctuary in my hectic schedule, and I always look forward to her yoga classes. I can’t recommend Ma Yoga and Rachelle enough for expecting mothers!

Beams with warmth

Rachelle is so knowledgeable and welcoming and I am so thrilled my sister told me about this gem! Rachelle beams warmth and passion for what she does. She's an incredible resource and she's very attentive to everyone's movement within the class. I'm very excited that I found Rachelle and this class so early in my pregnancy so that I can make it a part of the rest of my journey.

learned so much about healthy pregnancy

Rachelle's prenatal yoga class saved my sanity in my third trimester. I didn't start prenatal yoga until I was around 7 months pregnant, and by the time I met Rachelle I was in dire need of self care. The class allowed me to carve out time to focus on my own wellbeing as well as my baby's. I learned so much about healthy pregnancy and from Rachelle and the other women in the class. The breathing techniques also came in super handy for pain management during my labor and delivery.

Looked forward to this time

Once my little one arrived, I started going to Linda's Thursday morning class. I looked forward to this time each week to get to talk to other moms going through the same things I was. And it was great to get some gentle exercise to start getting used to my post-pregnancy body. Linda was always very encouraging, and tailored each class to the changing needs of the group. Yes, there were times that I spent the entire class feeding and soothing my baby, but I always felt I got something out of going.

Two thumbs up

Linda's teaching style, charisma, humor, and vibe have made my Thursdays into "Yoga Thursdays". Linda makes everyone feel like family and her conversations are always inclusive which is a major plus in my book. Oh and she adores every baby she comes into contact with. I love listening to Linda's stories be it yoga related, her journey through motherhood, or any other miscellaneous conversation we may be having during class. Two thumbs up for Linda and Ma Yoga 🙂

Rachelle was my savior1

During my pregnancy Rachelle was my savior! Not only was her class encouraging, but it was also very comforting. She assured me that all of my feelings were natural and ok. She pushed me to be my best and always praised my efforts. It was my first baby, and my first time doing yoga. I hated missing a class and looked forward to our nights together. I used so many techniques during my labor and they actually helped! I could hear her calming voice in my ear during contractions. There aren't any words to express my gratitude for her class. Worth every penny!

the best advice

Linda is an amazing prenatal yoga teacher, but also a very warm and kind person. Her prenatal class is my favorite. I have less time as this is my third pregnancy, but I attended her class more often for my first and second pregnancies and it was such a big help. She gives the best advice!

WHAT MAKES MA YOGA DIFFERENT

Hi I’m Jessica. I love supporting women on their journey to motherhood & beyond since 2001.

I created the community and alignment-focused method of yoga called Ma Yoga in 2009, because women in their childbearing years need a different kind of yoga.
Jessica Jennings, Ma Yoga Prenatal & Mom Yoga Teacher
As busy nurturers of people and projects, we need our yoga to be:

  • honed down to the most inspiring and effective elements
  • easy to access and hop in to
  • strengthening for our core
  • stabilizing for our joints
  • toning for our muscles
  • therapeutic for our aches and pains
  • grounding and calming for our energy
  • clearing for our mind
  • opening for our heart
  • supportive so we can feel nurtured rather than depleted

After more than 18,000 women came through our Prenatal and Mom Yoga classes, and we saw how Ma Yoga changed pregnancies, postpartums and even lives, we are so happy to be able to reach moms and moms-to-be wherever they are!

Whether you’re pregnant with a baby, an idea, or a vision for who you’re becoming, we’ll guide you through our simple but powerful alignment actions to help you become the “Ma” you want to be.

HOW TO SET UP FOR YOGA IN THE MA YOGA ZOOM ROOM

Doing yoga with us is so easy! You just need enough space for your mat on the floor in front of a tablet or laptop.

Place your mat with the wide side facing your laptop or tablet.

Move your mat back as far as you can, so when you are standing we can still see most of you.

If you’re in Mom Yoga and your baby’s with you, put baby on a blanket next to your mat.

Set up for Prenatal and Mom Yoga in the Ma Yoga Zoom RoomThis picture shows my set up.

In addition, I really recommend investing in yourself buying some yoga props! They are wonderful to have available.

Below are useful props to have, and substitutes:

  • Place a folded yoga blanket or towel on the floor close to your camera to sit on for the beginning.
  • Have two blocks, soup boxes, or a low table nearby if its hard to touch the floor with straight legs.
  • If you can have a chair or back of a couch nearby, it can be useful for support in balancing poses and other kinds of standing poses.
  • Not shown: a rectangular yoga bolster, wonderful for prenatal yoga and fabulous anytime you need relief from tension.

Feel free to sign on a bit early to chat – and let the teacher know where you’re at in your journey, if you have any aches and pains, and anything else you want her to know about.

Class starts with a guided meditation, and then you’ll be taken step-by-step through alignment actions in poses that will help you open, strengthen, release tension and pain and enjoy a whole new freedom in body, mind and heart!

We teach to whoever is in the room, offering lots of variations, so whether you are a beginner or a teacher, you will enjoy a challenging, sweet practice. Since we teach in found locations, most of our classes are pretty small. This allows us to create a friendly, playful, and supportive atmosphere for our yoga.

Our teachers are highly trained in biomechanical, therapeutic alignment principles, so the practice is great for common pains such as shoulder, wrist, neck, and back.

On an even deeper level, your yoga practice will help connect you to baby, breath and body – whether baby’s inside or out. If you’re not a mom or mom-to-be, our Ma Yoga for Anyone classes are super fun.

We look forward to having you in the Ma Yoga Zoom Room! Quick book your first FREE class

welcomed and supported

Having lost 2 previous pregnancies, I wanted to be extra cautious in my practice and exercise. I was welcomed and supported in every way. The instructors, Linda and Rachelle, have been wonderful! I have low blood pressure and challenges with many traditional positions, especially now that the baby is so large; they offer very customized assistance in such a loving way. I never feel bad when I can’t do something or keep up. These caring instructors are full of ideas on how to modify poses to best suit me and the other participants.

all choices are embraced

These yoga classes are great. I often walk in feeling like my back and hips are all out of whack and then walk out feeling *amazing*. I love the community here too–it’s so helpful to hear how other pregnant woman are feeling and it’s a very supportive place.

Also–I wasn’t sure if this class would have a “you must have a natural home birth” vibe, but it totally doesn't. All choices are embraced and that feels really nice–it’s very nonjudgmental.

obstetrician recommended prenatal yoga

My obstetrician recommended prenatal yoga to help me with stress. I googled around and found Ma Yoga. I went to the first free class and enjoyed it. It was harder than I thought it would be, but I left feeling better. I kept attending until roughly 38 weeks, and returned a month later for their mommy and me classes.  My instructor was Jessica and I really loved her attitude and the class. Toward the end of my pregnancy, despite being the size of a small house, I was definitely getting better at all the poses and my balance.

class was like a lifeline

I just wanted to drop you a line and express my gratitude for the confidence you’ve inspired in me as I approach labor. Your class was like a lifeline, with your words of wisdom echoing through me as I approach the big day and beyond! Additionally, the learning and insightful instruction I’ve received has led to a much more comfortable last month than I anticipated. Daily I’m aware of my alignment and my inner/outer spiral! I also spend a little time each day with the restorative poses you taught in class.

best thing I could have done for myself

I started going to Ma Yoga when I was 16 weeks pregnant.  It was the best thing I could have done for myself!  Prenatal yoga helped a lot with the normal aches and pains of pregnancy.  I felt myself getting stronger and overall feeling much better each time I went.  It was also very soothing for my nerves and helped me deal with the general stress of being pregnant.

challenging but gentle

Practicing yoga with my baby next to me is such a rewarding experience – even if I only get to do a few poses, a little goes a long way.

actually thought about yoga class during labor

Thank you for all the great classes, it was really excellent to feel strong and confident throughout pregnancy, knowing that I could make it through an intense yoga class kept me from being afraid to exercise and really use my body the whole way through.

I actually thought about yoga class during labor!  Something you said a few times along the lines of not being afraid about what might happen during labor, just thinking “is that happening right now”. I’ve heard plenty of yoga teachers say “be in the moment” but it’s never made much sense, so thank you for putting that idea into a more usable phrase.

her insights to birthing and labor have been really valuable

I really like Rachelle’s class because I find that the exercises she focuses on are really helpful for pregnancy and for labor prep, plus she’s really attentive to different people’s bodies and their varying needs based on belly size and stage of pregnancy. I am so thankful for my experience with yoga and I am so excited to continue my practice now that my baby is here. I love having dedicated ‘me time’ in the calendar. Yoga definitely changed my life.
